The 33rd Tokyo Motor Show "First Passenger Car & Motorcycle Show"
October 22 - November 3

The 33rd Tokyo Motor Show is scheduled to run for thirteen days beginning October 22 (Fri) and ending November 3 (Wed - National Holiday), 1999 at the Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe) in Chiba. The show will be open to the public from October 23 (Sat). The outline of the show is shown on the attached sheet.

Prior to opening the show to the public, October 20 (Wed), and October 21 (Thu) will be reserved for journalists as the Press Days. October 22 (Fri) will be the Special Guest Day.

(1) Type of Show

The Tokyo Motor Show which was an "all-inclusive show" held every other year up to the last show will be separated into two shows: a "passenger car & motorcycle show" in 1999 and a "commercial vehicle show" in 2000, after which the two shows will continue to be alternately held.

Accordingly, passenger cars to be exhibited at this show will be limited to those with license plate numbers 3, 5, and 7 in principle. However, in order to meet the versatile requirements of visitors, a vehicle with a number other than the above will also be exhibited as a special exhibit if it is for 10 passengers or less and designed mainly for carrying passengers.

(2) Application

Invitations and application forms have been sent to the JMIF constituent members and exhibitors who participated in the last show. The application deadline period will be: July 1 (Wed) - October 15 (Thu), 1998.

(3) Show Theme

The theme for this motor show is: Eye to the future. Changing vehicles for the earth. The concept envisaged is an expectation and a hope of creating a better society for tomorrow.

(4) Study on the Intentions of Exhibitors and Visitors for the 34th Show

The JMIF is planning to study the intentions of exhibitors and visitors to formulate their plan for the 34th Tokyo Motor Show - Commercial Vehicles - to be held in 2000.

With an aim to devise a show scheme, the study on exhibitors' intentions includes

(A)type of vehicles to be exhibited, (B)hibition space required, and (C)prospective visitors.

The study on visitors is aimed at searching for visitors needs for the CV show. The questionnaire will be addressed to 10,000 CV user companies. The results of the study will be forwarded to exhibitors to help them plan for the show.
