The Japan Motor Industrial Federation, Inc. (Chairman: Hiroshi
Okuda) has begun accepting applications for exhibits at the "36th Tokyo
Motor Show - Commercial Vehicles - (2002)," which will be held at the Makuhari
Messe (Nippon Convention Center) in Chiba City from October 29 (Tuesday) to
November 3 (Sunday), 2002. The deadline for exhibit applications is January
31 (Thursday), 2002.
The 34th Tokyo Motor Show, held in autumn 2000, was the first
commercial vehicle show sponsored by JMIF; the 36th show will be the second
such commercial vehicle exhibition. Because far more visitors than expected
enjoyed the 2000 exhibition, JMIF has decided to extend the show period of the
36th Tokyo Motor Show by one day for a total of six days. In order to call on
even more domestic and overseas manufacturers to participate in the show, exhibit
application packages will be widely distributed to automobile makers, manufacturers
of automotive parts and bodies, and makers of automobile-related machinery and
tools in various countries. They will also be sent to embassies in Japan and
overseas, as well as automotive industry associations, and secretariats of other
motor shows around the world.
Participants in the "34th Tokyo Motor Show - Commercial
Vehicles - (2000)," Asia's first international commercial vehicle motor
show, included 129 companies from seven countries, along with two governments
and two other organizations. There were some 178,000 visitors, far exceeding
the original estimates of 120,000, making this an important first step for the
only international commercial vehicle show in Asia.
The characteristics of the 34th show were based on that of a business trade show, but it was presented as a venue for "offering an outlook for the future and conveying the current state of research and development," "communicating user needs," and "deepening interest in and understanding of commercial vehicles." As a result, the show welcomed a broad range of visitors, from business users with a high level of interest in commercial vehicles to families of automobile fans, and received an excellent response.
