A Joint Statement on Sustainable Fuels with ANFAVEA for Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA, Chairman: Masanori KATAYAMA) has issued a joint statement with the Brazilian Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA, Chairman: Igor Calvet). The statement, titled “Pragmatic and successful decarbonization of road transport -The Strategic Role of Sustainable Fuels including Biofuels and Technological Diversity-” was released in anticipation of the 1st Ministerial Meeting on Sustainable Fuels on September 15, 2025, and COP30 in Brazil in November.
The statement highlights that sustainable fuels, such as biofuels, can accelerate the shift toward cleaner mobility in both light and heavy-duty applications, when combined with advanced propulsion technologies like hybrid systems and fuel cells.
JAMA and ANFAVEA reaffirmed that this multi-pathway strategy is essential to address the unique challenge of different countries and to ensure that no promising technology is left behind.
Consequently, we will continue to advance a multiplicity of efforts, including electrification and the proactive introduction of vehicles compatible with these fuels.
Together with automobile associations around the world, we will continue our efforts to achieve our common goal of decarbonizing road transport.
