JAMA publishes Position Paper for the Strategic Dialogue on the future of the automotive industry on September 12

Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA, chairman: Masanori Katayama) has released a position paper in preparation for the Strategic Dialogue on the future of the automotive industry, to be held on September 12, 2025.

Although the EU has decided to ban the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035 to meet its transport sector climate goals, JAMA believes that a flexible, multi-pathway approach with diverse, technology-open solutions is necessary for all nations, including the EU, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 in a practical and sustainable way.

In this context, JAMA is calling on the European Commission, the European Parliament, and EU member state governments to maintain technological neutrality, ensure flexibility for achieving carbon neutrality through various approaches, and strengthen policy initiatives to expand the use of renewable fuels by considering their CO2 reduction effects.

JAMA will continue to fully commit to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through diverse pathways that are tailored to the local customers and energy situations of each region.

Original position paper can be found here.
