The General Agreement on a Japan-Malaysia EPA

Itaru Koeda, Chairman

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) heartily welcomes the general accord that has been reached on the establishment of a Japan-Malaysia Economic Partnership Agreement. I take this opportunity to respectfully acknowledge the efforts of those responsible for this considerable achievement.

JAMA has closely followed these government-to-government negotiations because of their significance to the automobile industry. We have high expectations that the signing of this agreement will pave the way for expanded trade, investment and industrial cooperation between our two countries. This, in turn, will be instrumental in strengthening the ties between the Japanese and Malaysian auto industries, and will contribute to further development and expansion for this sector in both nations.

Furthermore, it is hoped that this agreement will help generate momentum for negotiations towards similar agreements with Thailand and other countries in Asia in the not too distant future.
