JAMA Welcomes Decision to Begin Talks on a Japan-Canada Economic Partnership Agreement

Toshiyuki Shiga, Chairman, Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association

JAMA welcomes the decision reached on March 25 by the Japanese and Canadian governments to commence negotiations on the establishment of an economic partnership agreement (EPA) between the two countries.  We take this opportunity to express our great appreciation for the work carried out thus far by the Japanese government representatives concerned in reaching this preliminary goal.

The Japanese automobile industry has a longstanding presence in Canada, the extent of which reflects its considerable investment in Canada over the decades.  JAMA is confident that a Japan-Canada EPA will be instrumental in accelerating trade and investment between the two nations and contributing significantly to the advancement of the auto industry both in Canada and Japan.

JAMA looks forward to the Japanese government’s continued efforts, throughout the negotiation process, in seeking an early conclusion of a Japan-Canada economic partnership agreement.
