JAMA Motorcycle Committee Dispatching New Mission to China

  1. Background and Purpose
    • The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has dispatched three working-level missions to China since March of 2000, with the purpose of mounting appeals to Chinese government agencies, organizations and other authorities concerning the need for adoption of prompt measures and vigorous approaches to deal with the problem of "copy motorcycle" products in China.
    • The Committee is now dispatching a top mission to China including its chairman and leading members, to pursue the following aims:
      1. Launch the "China-Japan Motorcycle Intellectual Property Rights Project" with the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM); and
      2. Present requests to Chinese government leaders and related agencies for further strengthening of controls and crackdown activities against such copy products.
  2. Mission Membership and Schedule

    The mission will be led by Chairman Takehiko Hasegawa of the JAMA Motorcycle Committee, and consist of leading members of the Committee, representatives of the Motorcycle Overseas Subcommittee and others. The mission will be in China from February 25 to 27.

    2. Government Agencies
      State Economic and Trade Commission, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
    3. China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
  4. Other

    Also scheduled to take part in the mission are officials from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Automobile Division), the Japan Patent Office (International Division), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan-China Economic Association.
