The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association Opens New Office in Beijing
Opening ceremony held and dialogue sought with government and private sector on Japan-China automotive industry development

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA) held an opening ceremony for its Beijing office on September 26, 2003 at 17:30 (18:30 Japan time) at the China World Hotel in Beijing. The ceremony was attended by about 150 guests, including Chinese automotive industry leaders and Japanese government officials, as well as JAMA Chairman Yoshihide Munekuni, JAMA personnel and representatives of JAMA member companies.

In his keynote speech Munekuni stated, "As corporate members of JAMA work to develop the automobile industry through cooperative ventures with partners in China, it will also be necessary for us as an industrial association to establish closer communication for the promotion and building of mutual understanding between China and Japan. In this regard, JAMA's Beijing office will do its utmost to become a new bridge connecting the automobile industry communities of our two countries."

Prior to the opening ceremony, Chairman Munekuni had paid courtesy visits to leading Chinese government officials, during which he outlined exchange plans with China. The ceremony was followed by talks between the JAMA chairman and his counterpart Mr Miao Wei, Chairman of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) and General Manager of the Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Those talks covered a number of subjects, including the strengthening of relations between the auto industry communities of Japan and China and the progress of ongoing studies conducted by auto concerns in both countries on the early realization of private sector participation in, and support of, the government/private sector dialogue on Japan-China automotive industry development.
