The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA) is pleased to announce the “University Campus Visiting Lecturers Series 2018,” a program organized in collaboration with universities around Japan, in which speakers are dispatched from JAMA member companies to deliver special presentations at those institutions. (See below for a summary of this year’s program, schedule, venues and contacts.)

The twin goals of this lecture series are to foster interest in automobiles and motorcycles and to promote a greater understanding of the auto industry and manufacturing among young people. First launched in fiscal 2013, the program this year marks the series’ sixth edition, with more than 20,000 people on 23 campuses having participated to date.

In this series, CEOs and other top executives at Japanese automakers visit university campuses to speak and dialogue face to face with students not only about the unique appeal of automobiles and motorcycles, but also about the critical importance of the vitality of Japan’s manufacturing sector. The program has proved a resounding success and has obtained positive evaluations from the majority of its attendees, who affirmed their “growing interest in automobiles and motorcycles” as a result of their participation.

Akio Toyoda, Chairman of JAMA, has commented: “The series was launched six years ago when, with more and more young people losing interest in cars, automakers asked themselves: ‘Have automakers distanced themselves from young people? If so, let us take the initiative and close the gap between us.’ Through these university visits, I hope that as many young people as possible will develop an interest in cars, motorcycles, and manufacturing.”

The talks in this year’s program will cover a wide range of topics such as cutting-edge technologies and global industry strategies, in addition to the pleasures and benefits which automobiles and motorcycles can provide, as well as the crucial role of Japanese manufacturing. In a new initiative this year, the program will also offer a JAMA-hosted public lecture presented by JAMA Chairman Toyoda at the Tokyo Motor Festival 2018 on that event’s opening day (October 6; see below for details).

Through undertakings such as this lecture program, Japanese automakers are working together to win new car and motorcycle fans and bolster the automobile industry.

The University Campus Visiting Lecturers Series 2018 is a “Tokyo 2020 Support Program” recognized by the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
