With the announcement today of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s first reshuffle of her Cabinet since she took office last year, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) notes that many key ministers are retaining their posts to ensure executive continuity and that the Takaichi administration’s national strategy—which prioritizes investment in cutting-edge technologies and economic security policies—is highly encouraging for the automotive industry as we navigate fierce global competition.

We look forward to the new Takaichi Cabinet vigorously advancing its priority policies aimed at building a strong economy and a prosperous nation.

Japan’s auto industry and JAMA, as its leading representative organization, are aptly positioned to help implement major national undertakings identified in the Takaichi administration’s “17 Strategic Fields” initiative and JAMA is committed to working closely with the government towards those ends, while proactively addressing its so-called New Seven Priority Challenges^* aimed at enhancing our industry’s international competitiveness.

*Those seven challenges are:

1. Securing stable procurement of critical resources and components
2. Implementing multi-pathway strategies to carbon neutrality
3. Building mechanisms for a circular economy
4. Strengthening human resource foundations
5. Creating transportation systems integrating automated driving
6. Promoting fundamental reform of automobile-related tax systems
7. Enhancing competitiveness across the entire supply chain
